Iran Warns of Decisive Response to Any US Military Action

UNITED NATIONS: Iran’s envoy to the United Nations has warned that Tehran will respond “decisively” to any military aggression by the United States, urging the UN Security Council to condemn recent threats made by President Donald Trump.

In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and council members, Iran’s ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani cited Trump’s remarks about potentially using a military base in the Chagos Islands in any future strike against Iran.

Iravani said the “belligerent statement” should not be treated as rhetoric given what he described as continued US military deployments in the region. He stressed that Iran does not seek conflict but warned that if attacked, it would consider all bases and assets of the hostile force in the region as legitimate targets.

The warning came after Trump said Tehran had 10 to 15 days to reach a “meaningful deal” with Washington, speaking during meetings linked to his newly formed Board of Peace initiative in Washington, D.C..

Trump said US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had held productive discussions with Iranian representatives, adding that failure to reach an agreement could lead to unspecified consequences.

Despite diplomatic contacts, tensions remain high. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said negotiations in Geneva had made “good progress,” with both sides reaching broad agreement on guiding principles for a potential deal.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei also issued a warning on social media, saying that while US military deployments were dangerous, Iran possessed capabilities that could counter such threats.

Relations between Washington and Tehran have remained strained since late 2025, following threats of further strikes over Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes and renewed regional tensions.
