China warns US military moves against Iran could destabilise West Asia

UNITED NATIONS: China has warned that any US-led military action against Iran could dangerously destabilise West Asia and push the region toward unpredictable and catastrophic consequences.

Addressing the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday, China’s Permanent Representative Fu Cong said the situation around Iran had become a matter of global concern as threats of war and regional tensions continued to rise.

He cautioned that the use of force would not resolve disputes, stressing that reckless military moves would only plunge the region into deeper instability.

“The use of force cannot solve problems. Any acts of military adventurism will only push the region into an abyss of unpredictability,” Fu said.

He urged the United States and its allies to avoid escalating the crisis and to act in ways that promote peace and stability in the Middle East rather than inflaming tensions.

Fu also reaffirmed China’s support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating that the future of the country must be decided by its own people without external interference.

Calling on all parties to respect the UN Charter, he opposed interference in internal affairs of states and rejected the threat or use of force in international relations.

The Chinese envoy warned against turning West Asia into a battleground for global power rivalries, saying the region belonged to its people and should not be sacrificed to geopolitical agendas.

His remarks came amid heightened rhetoric from US President Donald Trump and the recent deployment of American naval forces to the region, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned that any aggression against the country would be met with a decisive and “regret-inducing” response.
