Pakistan’s Role in Global Peace Efforts Commendable, Says UN Chief Guterres

ISLAMABAD: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has praised Pakistan’s contribution to global peace, particularly its participation in UN peacekeeping missions.

Guterres made the remarks during a meeting with Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry in Islamabad. The meeting discussed global and regional developments as well as matters related to UN peacekeeping missions.

Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan was playing an active role in the global fight against terrorism. He claimed that 25 terrorist organizations were currently operating in Afghanistan and posed a major threat to global peace.

The interior minister stressed the need for the international community to work collectively to address the threat of terrorism.

Naqvi said Pakistan would continue playing its full role in UN peacekeeping missions. He added that Pakistani police officers and personnel were also serving with UN Police.

According to the interior minister, Pakistan has sacrificed 181 lives in UN peacekeeping missions.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Pakistan’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions had always been significant and praised the country’s contribution to global peace.

Naqvi also thanked the UN secretary-general for the organization’s support to Pakistan during natural disasters.
