Trump Says US Will Soon Leave Iran, Predicts Sharp Drop in Oil Prices

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said that the United States will soon leave Iran and predicted that oil prices are set to “drop like a rock.”

Speaking at an election rally in Texas, Trump reiterated his position on Iran’s nuclear program, saying the United States would not allow Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons.

Trump said he wanted to reach a possible agreement with Iran, but questioned whether Tehran was prepared to take acceptable steps to halt its nuclear program.

“I think a deal is something I really want to do,” Trump said, while questioning whether Iran was willing to offer measures to stop its nuclear program. He reiterated that Iran would never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.

The US president also repeated his controversial statements regarding alleged Iranian attacks on Los Angeles and San Diego in recent days. Trump said that if such attacks occurred, the United States would respond forcefully and ensure the defense of the country.

The Texas appearance marked Trump’s third visit to the state in the past month as he campaigns for Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections.

Republicans are facing a closely contested battle to maintain their majority in Congress in the upcoming midterm elections.
