At least three people were killed and seven others injured after a suicide blast struck a wedding ceremony at the residence of a peace committee leader in Dera Ismail Khan on Friday night, police said.
According to law enforcement officials, the explosion occurred during a marriage event at the home of Aman Committee head Noor Alam Mehsud, located near Qureshi Mor. Noor Alam Mehsud was among those injured in the attack.
Police said the injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, with five victims taken to the DHQ Trauma Centre for treatment. Initial investigations suggest the blast was a suicide attack, while reports indicate that attackers also opened fire following the explosion.
The deceased were identified as Peace Committee member Waheedullah Mehsud alias Jigri, Abdul Majeed Lagri Advocate, and an unidentified 29-year-old man.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi strongly condemned the incident and sought an immediate report from the provincial police chief. He directed authorities to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist incidents since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan being the most affected provinces. According to ISPR, law enforcement agencies conducted over 75,000 intelligence-based operations in 2025, killing more than 2,500 terrorists nationwide.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban to prevent the use of Afghan soil for attacks against Pakistan, warning that continued cross-border terrorism threatens regional stability.
