NEW YORK: A protest was held outside the United Nations headquarters in New York, organized by the World Kashmir Awareness Forum and Kashmiri-American communities from the New York and Washington metropolitan areas.
Kashmiri and Pakistani community representatives, along with women, children and elderly participants, attended the demonstration.
The protesters called on the United Nations to implement its resolutions concerning Kashmir and support the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
In a joint statement, the demonstrators also protested the Indian foreign minister being given an opportunity to address the UN platform and called for international investigations into allegations of human rights violations in Kashmir.
At the conclusion of the protest, a memorandum was submitted to UN officials, urging diplomatic efforts for a peaceful and just resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
