NEW YORK: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Friday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported that the two foreign ministers held talks during the meeting.
Footage released by Iranian media showed Araghchi and Faisal bin Farhan shaking hands before sitting down for discussions.
The meeting comes amid heightened tensions across the Middle East and increased diplomatic engagement among regional countries at the UN General Assembly.
Araghchi has held a series of meetings with foreign counterparts during the UNGA session, including discussions with regional and international officials on developments in the Middle East and diplomatic efforts.
The talks between the Iranian and Saudi foreign ministers also took place as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye intensified consultations under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement following attacks targeting Saudi territory.
