NEW YORK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The two leaders reviewed the overall state of Pakistan-Bangladesh bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over the positive progress in ties. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments and areas of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Bangladesh on taking up the presidency of the 81st UN General Assembly session and reiterated Pakistan’s support for Bangladesh’s efforts to advance the objectives of the United Nations.
The Pakistani prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening and deepening mutually beneficial relations with Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also expressed goodwill and satisfaction over the positive developments in bilateral relations, while conveying Bangladesh’s desire to further expand ties with Pakistan.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in areas including trade, investment, education, tourism and people-to-people contacts.
They also underscored the importance of regular communication and dialogue and agreed to continue coordination and cooperation at multilateral forums, particularly the United Nations.
