ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s freelance workforce has achieved a historic milestone by generating $1.76 billion in foreign exchange during the fiscal year 2025-26, representing a remarkable 78% increase compared to the $984 million earned in the previous fiscal year.
According to Ibrahim Amin, Chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA), the country’s freelancers reached this achievement through their own skills, dedication, and hard work without relying on government support.
Citing data from the State Bank of Pakistan, Amin said the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2026, witnessed record-breaking growth in freelance export earnings, highlighting the rapid expansion of Pakistan’s digital economy.
He noted that the significant increase in foreign exchange earnings has contributed to strengthening Pakistan’s macroeconomic indicators.
In addition to bringing valuable foreign currency into the country, freelancers are also supporting the national economy through tax payments.
Amin emphasized that Pakistan’s freelance community has become a key driver of economic growth, with export revenues from freelance services now surpassing several traditional sectors of the economy.
Industry experts believe the continued growth of Pakistan’s digital workforce reflects the country’s increasing global competitiveness in information technology, software development, digital marketing, graphic design, content creation, and other online professional services.
