Tehran: Iran has condemned what it says was a U.S. airstrike targeting the construction site of the Darkhovin Nuclear Power Plant in the southern province of Khuzestan, describing the attack as a blatant violation of international law.
According to Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency, the Information Center of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said the attack took place on Sunday morning and targeted the under-construction nuclear power facility.
In a statement, the AEOI accused the United States of carrying out an “aggressive and barbaric” attack on one of Iran’s major scientific and strategic infrastructure projects.
The organization alleged that the strike constituted a serious breach of international legal norms and was aimed at undermining Iran’s scientific progress and national development.
The AEOI further claimed that the attack was intended to obstruct Iran’s path toward technological advancement and independence while directly targeting the achievements of the country’s young scientists and engineers.
Iranian officials said the Darkhovin Nuclear Power Plant is being developed by Iranian experts using domestic expertise and technology as part of the country’s national nuclear energy program.
There has been no immediate response from U.S. officials regarding Iran’s allegations, and the claims could not be independently verified.
