Dar, Bilawal discuss country’s overall situation, AJK affairs during meeting

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Tuesday met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar at the Aiwan-i-Sadr, where the two leaders discussed the country’s overall situation, including matters related to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the PPP, the meeting focused on the prevailing national situation as well as developments in AJK. The meeting comes ahead of the AJK general elections, which are scheduled to be held on July 27.

Last month, Bilawal and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced that their parties would jointly contest the upcoming AJK elections.

Ahead of the polls, the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has also called for widespread protests, demanding the abolition of 12 reserved seats.

Bilawal had also met Dar last week to discuss the situation in AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), according to Radio Pakistan.

The report said both leaders had agreed on the importance of ensuring that the forthcoming AJK general elections are held in a free, fair and transparent manner.

Last month, the PPP formed a government in Gilgit-Baltistan with the support of the ruling PML-N, reflecting the coalition arrangement between the two parties at the federal level.
