Israeli drone strike kills Palestinian child in southern Gaza despite ceasefire

GAZA: A Palestinian child was killed and several other people were wounded in an Israeli drone strike in the southern Gaza Strip, according to medical officials.

Health authorities at Nasser Medical Complex said the attack took place in the al-Mawasi area, located west of Khan Younis city. The strike is the latest in a series of incidents reported in Gaza despite the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in October 2025.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israeli attacks since the start of the ceasefire have resulted in the deaths of at least 1,027 people and left another 3,280 injured.

Meanwhile, the United Nations warned on Tuesday that the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains critical. The organisation said nearly 1.7 million displaced Palestinians — roughly 80 per cent of the territory’s population — are living in extremely harsh conditions across nearly 1,600 displacement sites.

The UN added that those displaced are facing severe shortages of water, shelter and other basic services, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian challenges despite the ceasefire.
