Trump says US-Iran MoU is ‘very strong’, expects Iran wants to sign

FRANCE: US President Donald Trump has said he believes Iranian leaders want to formally sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries, while acknowledging that agreements can never be guaranteed until they are completed.

Responding to a reporter’s question about how confident he was that the US-Iran MoU would be signed on Friday, as he had previously announced, Trump gave a lengthy response but said he expected the deal to move forward.

“You never know with deals. But you’re going to find out pretty soon. I think it’ll be done. They want to sign, they want to get back to a normal life,” Trump said.

The US president described the agreement as “a very strong one”, adding that it was not a simple or brief arrangement but a detailed document similar to a formal contract.

“This isn’t just like a two-paragraph … this is a long, pretty detailed, memorandum that goes into a regular contract,” Trump said.

He added that he believed Iran would agree to sign the document but said the United States would respond if the deal did not go ahead.

“I would think they would do it; if they don’t, that’s OK. We’ll have to start the process again,” Trump said.
