Israel seeks to declare Turkiye ‘new enemy’, says FM Fidan after Netanyahu’s remarks

The Turkish foreign ministry strongly criticised Benjamin Netanyahu over his remarks targeting Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, stating that such comments stem from “the discomfort caused by the truths we have consistently voiced on every platform.”

In an official statement, the ministry said that Netanyahu — whom it claimed has been described by some as “the Hitler of our time” due to the crimes attributed to him — is a widely known figure with a well-documented record.

The statement further argued that Netanyahu’s current objective is to derail ongoing peace negotiations while continuing what it described as expansionist policies in the region. It added that if he fails in these efforts, he could face legal consequences domestically, including the possibility of trial and imprisonment, referencing his long-running corruption case.

The ministry also highlighted that an arrest warrant has been issued against Netanyahu by the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.Additionally, it pointed out that under Netanyahu’s leadership, Israel is facing proceedings at the International Court of Justice over allegations of genocide.

Reiterating its stance, the ministry said that Israeli officials’ “baseless, brazen, and false allegations” against President Erdoğan reflect their unease with the positions Türkiye has consistently expressed on international platforms.

Concluding its statement, Türkiye affirmed that it will continue to support innocent civilians and intensify efforts to ensure that Netanyahu is held accountable for the crimes he is accused of committing.
