US Admits Three F-15 Fighter Jets Shot Down in Friendly Fire Incident

Washington: The United States has acknowledged that three of its fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses in what officials described as a “friendly fire” incident during active combat operations.

In a statement, United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that three F-15E Strike Eagles went down over Kuwaiti territory while flying in support of Operation Epic Fury, the ongoing Israeli-American military campaign against Iran.

“Three US F-15E Strike Eagles flying in support of Operation Epic Fury went down over Kuwait due to an apparent friendly fire incident,” CENTCOM said.

According to the command, the aircraft were operating in a high-intensity combat environment that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones.

During the engagement, Kuwaiti air defense systems mistakenly identified the American jets as hostile and fired upon them.

The F-15E Strike Eagle, produced by Boeing and operated by the United States Air Force, is a dual-role fighter jet capable of conducting both air superiority and precision strike missions.

Despite the loss of the aircraft, CENTCOM confirmed that all six aircrew members ejected safely and were successfully recovered. “All six aircrew ejected safely, have been safely recovered, and are in stable condition,” the statement noted.

Kuwait has formally acknowledged the incident, and U.S. officials expressed appreciation for the rapid response and coordination of Kuwaiti defense forces during the recovery effort.

CENTCOM added that the incident remains under investigation as military officials review identification procedures and air defense coordination protocols amid ongoing hostilities.
