Pakistan urges restraint amid escalation in Middle East

NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has strongly condemned the recent attacks on Iran during an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.

Addressing the Council, Asim Iftikhar expressed deep concern over the escalating regional crisis, stating that the attack on Iran was carried out while diplomatic efforts were still underway. He urged all parties involved to demonstrate patience and restraint to prevent further destabilization.

Call for Respect of International Law

The Pakistani envoy emphasized that international law and the UN Charter must be upheld at all costs. He reiterated Pakistan’s condemnation of the attacks on Iran as well as strikes affecting regional countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Qatar.

“Pakistan also condemns the unfortunate death of a Pakistani national in the UAE during this dastardly attack,” he said.

Authorities have confirmed that the Pakistani citizen was killed by falling debris linked to a missile strike. Asim Iftikhar called for restraint, urging all sides to refrain from actions that could undermine the security and territorial integrity of other states in the region.

He also appreciated Oman’s mediation efforts in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, underscoring the importance of diplomacy over military escalation.
