NEW YORK: The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran rejected key US demands during recent talks held in Geneva over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Citing unnamed Iranian state-run media and anonymous sources, the report said Tehran dismissed proposals to hand over its uranium stockpiles to a foreign country. Iran also opposed calls to halt uranium enrichment, dismantle nuclear facilities and accept indefinite restrictions on the development of its nuclear programme.
The negotiations in Geneva were part of ongoing diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States aimed at addressing concerns surrounding Tehran’s nuclear activities.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said after the talks that both delegations had achieved serious progress and initiated in-depth discussions on elements of a potential future agreement concerning Iran’s nuclear dossier.
Araghchi described the dialogue as substantive, indicating that further negotiations would continue to explore the framework of a possible deal, though differences remain on several core issues.
Observers say the outcome of the Geneva discussions will be crucial in determining whether diplomatic channels can bridge longstanding disagreements between the two countries.
