Kyiv: Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s capital and several other regions, days before the conflict between the two countries enters its fifth year, Ukrainian officials said on Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said nearly 50 missiles of various types and around 300 attack drones were used in the strikes, targeting Kyiv and surrounding areas, as well as the regions of Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, and Sumy.
He said the main objective of the attack was the country’s energy infrastructure, while residential buildings and railway facilities also sustained damage.
Local authorities reported that at least two civilians, including a child, were injured in Kyiv during the strikes.
In the Kyiv region, one person was killed and 15 others were wounded, including four children, according to the regional governor.
The attacks also disrupted electricity supply in some areas as temperatures dropped to minus 11 degrees Celsius, worsening humanitarian conditions for affected residents.
