Kohat: Rising incidents of targeted killings in the district have raised serious concerns about the law and order situation, with two major violent incidents within two days creating fear among residents and prompting calls for urgent government action.
According to police sources, unidentified armed assailants attacked a police mobile on Shakardarra Road, resulting in the martyrdom of DSP Lachi Asad Mehmood and two accompanying personnel on the spot. The attackers managed to flee after the incident. The bodies were shifted to Lachi Hospital, while security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
A day earlier, a well-known female doctor, Dr Mehvesh, was shot dead in a separate incident in Kohat, triggering protests by the medical community, which expressed serious concerns over the deteriorating security situation.
The back-to-back incidents have alarmed citizens and civil society representatives, who have urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to take immediate notice, ensure the arrest of those responsible, and introduce effective measures to restore peace. Residents also called for necessary reforms within the police department to improve public safety and protect lives.
Police officials said investigations were underway and expressed confidence that the perpetrators would be apprehended soon.
