Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has warned that recent US military movements and aggressive rhetoric in West Asia are part of a calculated strategy to destabilise the region.
He made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Tuesday.
President Pezeshkian said American threats and psychological operations were aimed at undermining regional security and would only lead to further instability. He linked the comments to the arrival of a US aircraft carrier in the region and a series of escalatory statements from Washington.
The Iranian leader said hostility from the United States and Israel had intensified since the start of his administration, citing economic pressure, recent military actions and what he described as attempts to fuel unrest inside Iran.
“They believed they could turn Iran into another Syria or Libya, but they failed to understand the strength and awareness of the Iranian nation,” he said, adding that public resistance had defeated what he called foreign-backed conspiracies.
He also criticised Western media for what Tehran says are exaggerated casualty figures from recent unrest, insisting that many victims were civilians and security personnel targeted in violent attacks.
On negotiations, President Pezeshkian expressed doubt over Western sincerity, saying past talks were undermined by military actions against Iran. However, he reiterated that Tehran remains open to any lawful process that promotes peace while respecting Iran’s rights.
The president thanked Islamic countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, for their support, stressing that unity among Muslim nations is essential for long-term stability in the region.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in response, said any threat or aggression against Iran was unacceptable and reaffirmed Riyadh’s commitment to regional peace, security and cooperation.
