Ghalibaf Warns Against Supporting AI Firms Linked to Attacks, Announces Persian Gulf Data Authority

TEHRAN: Iranian Parliament Speaker Baqer Ghalibaf has announced the qforthcoming Persian Gulf Data Authority and urged governments, investment funds and businesses across the region to withhold resources from artificial intelligence and data companies allegedly involved in supporting military invasions or the killing of children.

In a statement posted on X, Ghalibaf called on regional stakeholders not to provide financial support, equity investments, land or energy to companies involved in such activities.

“The Persian Gulf Data Authority is coming,” Ghalibaf wrote, warning that those who assist the companies in question could face enforcement measures.

His statement specifically targeted AI and data firms accused of contributing to military operations that result in civilian casualties, particularly the deaths of children.

However, Ghalibaf did not provide further details about the authority’s proposed structure, legal powers, enforcement mechanisms or timeline for implementation.

The announcement signals a proposed effort to use financial and infrastructure restrictions to discourage regional governments and businesses from supporting technology companies accused of facilitating military operations.
