Iran Says Regional Peace Requires End to Fighting on All Fronts

TEHRAN: Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh has said that achieving peace in the region requires an end to fighting on all fronts, warning that continued hostilities on any front mean the war remains ongoing across the region.

According to Iran’s IRNA news agency, Khatibzadeh made the remarks in an interview with Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen television network.

He said Iran was committed to securing an end to Israeli attacks on Lebanon, adding that the objective had been included in a memorandum of understanding reached between Iran and the United States in Islamabad in June.

Khatibzadeh accused the United States and Israel of violating the Islamabad understanding through attacks on Iran and Lebanon.

He also said Israel could not be trusted to honour its commitments.

Describing the US war against Iran as illegal under international law, the Iranian deputy foreign minister said Tehran remained determined to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He further said Iran had proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days.
