US and Iran Holding Talks on Seven Points, Pakistan’s Foreign Office Says

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office has revealed that the United States and Iran are engaged in negotiations on seven points, adding that Washington has also shared its position on Tehran’s seven-point proposals.

Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan made the remarks during his weekly media briefing in Islamabad.

He said direct contacts between the United States and Iran were the result of Pakistan’s mediation efforts, adding that a memorandum of understanding was already in place between the parties.

According to the spokesperson, some of the points under discussion are consistent with the existing memorandum.

He added that Pakistan and other key countries were playing a role in efforts to resolve the dispute between Washington and Tehran.

Khan said Pakistan wanted to promote direct engagement between the two countries, reduce tensions and facilitate a negotiated settlement to the conflict.

He further stated that Pakistan remained ready to resume its mediation role between the United States and Iran if required.

The spokesperson did not disclose the details of the seven points or provide a timeline for the ongoing negotiations.
