Earthquake Strikes Panama, Tsunami Warnings Issued Across Multiple Countries

PANAMA CITY: Tsunami warnings have been issued across multiple countries following a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake in the Central American country of Panama.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), tsunami waves could strike coastal areas of Panama, Chile and Colombia.

Tsunami warnings have also been issued for Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Mexico.

Authorities reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres, raising concerns about its potential impact on coastal communities. The tremor also disrupted electricity supplies in six provinces of Panama.

According to news agency reports, Panama’s international airport was temporarily closed following the earthquake.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation in affected areas. Residents in coastal regions have been urged to follow official instructions and take precautionary measures in response to the tsunami warnings.
