Pentagon Draws Up Plans for Three-Day Strike Campaign Against Iran, NYT Reports

Washington: The Pentagon has developed plans for a possible three-day campaign of intensive strikes against Iran, targeting its rebuilt missile and drone arsenal, energy infrastructure, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) command centers, and military facilities, The New York Times reported, citing U.S. officials.

According to the report, Washington is preparing for the potential resumption of major combat operations, with three American aircraft carriers expected to be positioned in the Middle East.

However, U.S. President Donald Trump remains reluctant to restart the war. The report said Trump had rejected five proposals for major military operations against Iran or Yemen’s Houthi movement in recent months.

Trump’s advisers remain divided over the potential effectiveness of renewed military action. Some have questioned whether additional strikes would change Tehran’s position, while others believe a limited campaign could increase pressure on Iran’s struggling economy.

The reported plans come amid uncertainty over Washington’s next steps toward Tehran. It remains unclear whether the administration will authorize the proposed campaign or continue pursuing alternatives to a renewed military confrontation.
