ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday to discuss the country’s overall political and security situation, according to sources.
The meeting took place after a ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr where President Zardari conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiaz on United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. Senior leaders from both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) also attended the meeting, the sources said.
The situation arising from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) long march in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was also discussed during the meeting.
Members of the government’s negotiating committee briefed the president and prime minister on the progress and developments in the talks process.
According to the sources, the two leaders agreed to continue consultations before taking any constitutional or legal measures in response to the prevailing political situation.
