WASHINGTON: The United States has imposed new sanctions on one Iranian and two Russian entities as part of efforts to disrupt the transfer of weapons and military equipment to Iran.
According to the U.S. Treasury Department, the sanctions target Iran’s Saha Airlines, Russian aircraft manufacturer Yakovlev, and Russian shipping company MG-FLOT.
U.S. officials said Yakovlev supplied Iran with Yak-130 combat trainer aircraft and related equipment, while vessels managed by MG-FLOT were involved in the transfer of ballistic missiles from Iran to Russia.
The Treasury Department said Saha Airlines had been involved in the transfer of weapons and related military equipment for Iran.
According to the United States, the measures have been taken in support of the reimposition of United Nations sanctions on Iran and are part of “Operation Economic Outcast.”
The U.S. Treasury said the latest sanctions are aimed at restricting Iran’s weapons-transfer networks and increasing financial and commercial pressure on entities linked to those activities.
