Islamabad: Electricity consumers across Pakistan, including K-Electric customers, may face higher power tariffs under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has asked the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase electricity prices by Rs1.73 per unit for August under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism.
NEPRA is scheduled to hear the CPPA’s request today, after which the authority will decide whether to approve the proposed adjustment.
According to the CPPA, 14.464 billion units of electricity were supplied to distribution companies (DISCOs) during August, with the cost of electricity supplied to the DISCOs averaging Rs8.82 per unit.
The data shows that hydropower accounted for 37.84 percent of electricity generation during the month, while 10.88 percent was generated from local coal and 15.59 percent from imported coal.
Electricity generated from furnace oil accounted for 2.15 percent, while local gas contributed 7.04 percent and imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) accounted for 8.48 percent of generation.
The final impact on consumers will depend on NEPRA’s decision on the CPPA’s monthly fuel adjustment request.
