RAWALPINDI: A delegation of the United States Afghanistan War Commission, led by its Co-Chairs Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr. Colin F. Jackson, met with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the US delegation is reviewing the United States’ 20-year engagement in Afghanistan.
The meeting covered matters of mutual interest, including Pakistan’s support during the conflict, the regional security environment and developments in Afghanistan. The discussions also focused on perspectives relevant to the Commission’s ongoing review.
Field Marshal Asim Munir shared Pakistan’s perspective on the security dynamics that shaped the Afghanistan conflict and highlighted the challenges faced by Pakistan during the prolonged war.
He stressed the importance of incorporating the regional perspective and Pakistan’s experience while assessing the strategic, diplomatic and operational dimensions of the conflict.
The delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding role and sacrifices during the conflict in Afghanistan and appreciated the country’s continued contribution to regional peace and stability.
The US Afghanistan War Commission is conducting a review of America’s two-decade engagement in Afghanistan, including the strategic, diplomatic and operational aspects of the conflict and its regional implications.
