NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has called for greater unity among G-77 and China countries to safeguard the global development agenda and ensure that development remains central to the United Nations.
Addressing the Annual Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the G-77 and China in New York, Ishaq Dar highlighted the major challenges confronting developing countries, including rising debt burdens, limited fiscal space, climate vulnerabilities and widening technological gaps.
He stressed the need to translate international commitments into tangible outcomes, particularly through implementation of the Sevilla Commitment and reforms to the international financial architecture.
The deputy prime minister also emphasized that emerging United Nations mechanisms on artificial intelligence should help bridge technological divides and ensure meaningful participation of developing countries in global AI governance.
He called for an equitable outcome of ongoing international tax negotiations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the principles of equity and Common but Differentiated Responsibilities in global climate action.
Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with the G-77 and China to promote a more equitable international economic order and keep development at the heart of the UN agenda.
