PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said consultations have been held on the possibility of imposing governor’s rule in the province.
Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Kundi said the possibility of governor’s rule existed and that the Constitution provided for such a measure.
He cited law and order, lawlessness and terrorism among the issues facing the province, saying the situation had prompted consultations on the matter.
Commenting on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s proposed long march, the governor said there was no clear indication of preparations for the march by the party.
He claimed that some PTI members were offering themselves for arrest and expressed his expectation that the party could announce the cancellation of the long march within the next day or two.
Kundi also raised objections to a proposed provincial law concerning the police system.
He alleged that the provincial government was seeking greater control over the police and wanted powers relating to the appointment of inspectors general, deputy inspectors general and district police officers.
The governor said he would oppose such a move, stressing that law and order remained a major concern given the current situation in the province.
