Doha: Mediators have proposed a 10-day ceasefire between Iran and the United States in an effort to reduce tensions and create an opportunity to revive diplomatic negotiations.
According to Reuters, an Iranian official said the proposal is currently under consideration as both sides explore ways to end the ongoing confrontation.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the purpose of the proposed ceasefire is to identify a path toward restoring the interim agreement.
He added that mediating countries are actively working to ease tensions and encourage diplomatic engagement.
Baghaei said messages from Washington have continued to reach Tehran through third-party mediators, indicating that diplomatic channels have remained open despite the conflict.
He also warned that if the conflict expands further, the United States would bear responsibility. Referring to Iran’s Kharg Island, Baghaei stated that Iranian forces are prepared to confront any attempt by U.S. troops to seize the strategic location.
