New Rs100 to Rs5,000 Banknotes Planned With Modern Features

The federal government has decided to introduce new currency notes with upgraded security features and modern security threads, aiming to strengthen anti-counterfeiting measures.

The decision was taken during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to officials, new banknotes will be issued in denominations of Rs100, Rs500, Rs1,000 and Rs5,000. The redesigned notes will feature advanced security threads, modern printing technology, and updated visual elements.

The cabinet was briefed that the new designs will reflect Pakistan’s regional and geographical diversity, highlight historical landmarks, and showcase women’s contributions to national development. Social themes such as climate change will also be incorporated into the designs.

A cabinet committee has been formed to further deliberate on the final designs of the new currency notes.

Speaking to Geo News, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Deputy Governor Saleemullah said the new notes are expected to be issued between November and December 2026, adding that formal cabinet approval is likely in the coming months.

Meanwhile, the cabinet also directed that the draft Private Hajj Policy 2027–2030 be referred to the Hajj Policy Committee for further review, particularly regarding the registration and scrutiny of private Hajj operators through third parties.

The federal cabinet additionally endorsed decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Energy and approved outcomes of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting held last month.
