Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that ongoing talks with the United States are showing progress, crediting Pakistan’s “gracious efforts” for facilitating the dialogue. However, he cautioned Washington against being drawn into further escalation amid tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on X, Araghchi stated that recent developments in Hormuz highlight the absence of a military solution to what he described as a political crisis. He noted that as talks move forward with Pakistan’s support, the United States should remain cautious of being pulled back into conflict by “ill-wishers,” adding that the United Arab Emirates should also exercise restraint. He further remarked that “Project Freedom is Project Deadlock.”
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has initiated a new effort to assist stranded tankers and other vessels in navigating through the strait. The crucial energy trade route has remained largely blocked since the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran in February, a conflict that has resulted in thousands of deaths across the region.
Separately, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Araghchi on Monday. The two leaders discussed the evolving regional situation as well as ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting peace and stability.
During the call, the Iranian foreign minister praised Pakistan’s constructive role and acknowledged its sincere mediation efforts. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Dar reaffirmed the country’s commitment to fostering positive engagement in the region, stressing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable paths to resolving disputes peacefully and ensuring long-term stability.
