Gas Cylinder Explosion in Islamabad Kills Six, Including Couple

ISLAMABAD: At least six people, including a newly married couple, were killed and 10 others injured on Sunday when a gas cylinder exploded at a house in Islamabad’s G-7/2 sector, officials said.

The explosion occurred during a wedding ceremony, causing severe damage to the house and four adjacent buildings. Additional Deputy Commissioner Sahibzada Yousaf said all individuals trapped under the rubble had been recovered and the rescue operation was completed.

Rescue teams pulled 15 people from the debris. The injured were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where an emergency was imposed to ensure immediate medical care. Hospital spokesperson Dr Aneesa Jalil said the injured, including two children, suffered serious injuries and were being treated in burn, orthopaedic and neurology departments.

Islamabad Police said Deputy Inspector General Muhammad Jawad Tariq visited the site and supervised rescue and relief operations. The area was cordoned off and an investigation was launched to determine the cause of the explosion.

Authorities said senior officials were directed to oversee relief efforts, while citizens were urged to cooperate with rescue teams.

The incident adds to a recent rise in gas-related accidents reported across the country, prompting renewed concern over safety measures.
