PM Shehbaz Condemns Targeting of Ayatollah Khamenei

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday strongly condemned the targeting of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in reported joint air strikes by the United States and Israel, terming the action a violation of international law and established diplomatic norms.

According to Iranian authorities, Khamenei was martyred in coordinated Israeli and US air strikes that began on February 28.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, the prime minister said it was an established international convention that heads of state or government should not be targeted under any circumstances.

Expressing solidarity with the people and government of Iran, Prime Minister Shehbaz conveyed heartfelt condolences over the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei, describing it as an irreparable loss for the Iranian nation.

“The Government and the people of Pakistan stand with the people of Iran in this hour of grief and sorrow and extend their most sincere condolences on the martyrdom of His Eminence Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei,” the prime minister said.

He also prayed for the departed soul and asked Allah Almighty to grant patience and strength to the Iranian people to bear the profound loss.
