Riyadh: Celebrations marking Saudi Arabia’s Founding Day have officially begun across Saudi Arabia, with buildings illuminated in the colors of the national flag in the capital and other cities, while festive slogans echoed in the air.
Large numbers of citizens participated in the central events, as highways, commercial centers, and historical landmarks were specially decorated for the occasion. Saudis are commemorating 300 years since the establishment of the First Saudi State with great enthusiasm.
Cultural programmes, traditional dances, musical performances, and public festivities are being held nationwide, attracting significant participation from youth and families.
The observance of Founding Day at the national level was approved in 2022 by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, after which the day has been officially celebrated on February 22 each year. The government also announced a public holiday to allow citizens to mark this important chapter of their national history.
Historically, the First Saudi State was founded in 1744 by Imam Muhammad bin Saud, an event regarded as a milestone in Saudi history. On this occasion, special shows, cultural displays, and historical presentations are being organized, with artists and young people paying tribute to the Kingdom’s heritage and culture.
