Duchess of Edinburgh Joins Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team

LONDON: The Duchess of Edinburgh on Friday joined the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team during the UK Winter Sports competition in Méribel, marking the 75th anniversary of the Inter-Service Snow Sports Championships (ISSSC).

The visit provided athletes with a rare opportunity to interact with a member of the royal family in an informal setting, away from official ceremonies. The Duchess spent time on the slopes, listening to competitors’ experiences, cheering during races and acknowledging their achievements.

In a post shared on Instagram, the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team said the Duchess’s encouragement and interest had a positive impact on athletes, boosting morale throughout the competition.

An informal lunch on the mountain allowed further interaction, with team members describing the moment as a reflection of unity, mutual support and shared passion for winter sports.

Athletes thanked the Duchess for her visit, affectionately referring to her as the “Duchess of the Ice” in recognition of the enthusiasm and energy she brought to the event.
