Iran Says Seven-Day Proposal to US Remains on Table, Strait of Hormuz Could Reopen on 6th Day

TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that Iran’s seven-day proposal submitted to the United States remains on the table, adding that the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened on the sixth day and negotiations could begin on the seventh day if US conditions are accepted.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad, Araghchi said the organisation should play a constructive role in resolving regional conflicts.

Commenting on the OIC meeting concerning Yemen, the Iranian foreign minister said serious discussions had taken place, with Saudi Arabia and several other countries presenting their positions.

He said Iran had called for a fair and balanced approach in the proposed resolution on Yemen, adding that Tehran could not endorse a resolution it considered unbalanced.

Araghchi further stated that Iran would not bow to threats under any circumstances and was better prepared than before to defend itself.

Separately, Araghchi met Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to discuss the latest regional developments, including the conflict involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

According to the report, the two sides also discussed ending the naval blockade of Yemen and exploring ways to reduce regional tensions.

The Iranian foreign minister said that Israel’s occupation and expansionist policies were the fundamental causes of instability in West Asia.
