US Announces New Sanctions on Iran Under ‘Operation Economic Outcast’

WASHINGTON: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has announced new sanctions targeting Iran, including an Iraqi bank and financial networks operating in the Middle East and Asia over their alleged links to Tehran.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Bessent said the sanctions were imposed under “Operation Economic Outcast.”

He said the measures were aimed at further tightening the economic pressure on Iran, adding that Washington would continue its financial pressure campaign against Tehran.

Bessent stated that the United States would seek to deprive the Iranian government of the financial resources it needs to support its military activities.

He further claimed that Iran’s so-called allies would not be able to save the country from economic collapse.

The announcement underscores Washington’s continued efforts to restrict Iran’s access to financial networks and increase economic pressure on the Iranian government.
