ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Assembly and Senate have approved resolutions concerning the imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by a majority vote, amid opposition protests.
In the National Assembly, lawmakers from the opposition opposed the proposed emergency and chanted slogans during the proceedings.
Members of the government and opposition debated the resolution for more than four hours before it was approved by a majority.
Following the proceedings, the National Assembly session was adjourned until Friday at 11:00 am.
Separately, the Senate also approved a resolution regarding the imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry presented the resolution in the upper house.
The opposition staged a walkout from the Senate after the resolution was passed, expressing its opposition to the move.
The resolutions were approved amid political differences between the government and opposition over the proposed emergency in the province.
