PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has warned the federal government against imposing an emergency or governor’s rule in the province, saying the government has no option but to accept his demands.
In a statement posted on X, Afridi said that carrying out such measures without formally announcing an emergency or governor’s rule would amount to rebellion.
“Have the courage to make the announcement. We will not back down from our constitutional and legal demands under any circumstances,” he said.
Afridi added that the long march would continue in accordance with the law until the demands were met, asserting that “only Imran Khan’s policy will prevail here.”
He further remarked that if an emergency or governor’s rule were formally imposed, people would forget the example of Turkey, without elaborating further on the statement.
Legal Consultation Underway at CM House
Meanwhile, consultations are reportedly underway at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar regarding the possible imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by the federal government.
According to sources, Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam and the Advocate General reached the Chief Minister’s House on the instructions of Sohail Afridi to discuss the legal aspects of the proposed move.
The developments come amid escalating political tensions between the provincial and federal governments over the possibility of emergency rule or governor’s rule in the province.
There has been no official confirmation of a decision to impose either measure.
