IRGC Navy Says LPG Carrier Caught Fire Near Strait of Hormuz, Warns Shipping Companies

Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has claimed that a large liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier, identified as NV Sunshine and reportedly belonging to Natwit, became stranded and suffered an extensive fire in its engine room and propulsion system while attempting to navigate a route south of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a statement by the IRGC Navy, the incident occurred hours before the announcement. The Iranian force described the route as “illegal” but did not provide further details about the vessel’s current condition, the cause of the fire, or possible casualties.

The IRGC Navy blamed the US military for the incident, alleging that Washington was interfering in maritime operations by misleading shipping and insurance companies and paying large bribes. It claimed that such actions were contributing to maritime incidents and escalating regional tensions.

The Iranian naval force also warned that shipping companies it believes have been misled by the United States could face sanctions. It added that punitive measures would be imposed on vessels belonging to companies found to be violating its stated restrictions.

The allegations against the United States, as well as the reported circumstances of the fire aboard the NV Sunshine, have not been independently verified. Further information about the incident and its potential impact on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains unavailable.
