Turkmenbashi: Russian President Vladimir Putin met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, to discuss bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and the evolving regional situation.
Welcoming his Iranian counterpart, Putin recalled their recent meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek. He said the latest meeting provided another opportunity to review bilateral ties, regional developments, and ongoing political processes.
Putin said relations between Russia and Iran were developing positively under the foundational agreement signed by the two countries early last year.
According to the Russian president, bilateral trade increased by more than 21 percent last year, with the positive trend continuing during the first seven months of the current year.
He also highlighted growing humanitarian and cultural cooperation, noting that the two countries had organised numerous joint events in these fields.
Putin said relations between Moscow and Tehran were steadily strengthening and asked Pezeshkian to convey his best wishes and goodwill to Iran’s Supreme Leader.
Discussing regional developments, Putin described the ongoing conflict as the most serious challenge facing the region. He said the conflict had not been initiated by Iran and maintained that Tehran was making genuine efforts to bring it to an end.
The Russian president added that Iran had put forward new proposals aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the regional crisis.
Putin reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to provide all possible assistance, within its capabilities, to help Iran resolve the situation peacefully.
