Ishaq Dar Meets UN Chief António Guterres in Islamabad, Discusses Global and Regional Issues
ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in Islamabad, with discussions focusing on regional and global issues related to peace and security.
According to the Foreign Office, the meeting covered a range of issues, including Palestine, Jammu and Kashmir, Afghanistan, counter-terrorism and the future of multilateralism.
Ishaq Dar briefed the UN Secretary-General on Pakistan’s position on Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s call for a just and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and de-escalation in regional conflicts. He particularly referred to Pakistan’s facilitation of the Islamabad Talks between the United States and Iran.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy, describing them as the most effective means of resolving disputes.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres appreciated Pakistan’s longstanding contribution to the United Nations and acknowledged its diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue, mediation and de-escalation.
