‘This Is a New Pakistan’: PM Shehbaz Quotes IMF Chief on Economic Progress

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) described Pakistan as a “new Pakistan” during their meeting in New York.

Speaking virtually at the formal gong ceremony held at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on the occasion of the listing of Naya Nazimabad Apartments, the prime minister quoted the IMF managing director as saying: “Prime Minister, this is a new Pakistan.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz said he responded that it was not a new Pakistan but “a new team” that had worked together to improve the country’s economic situation.

He said the State Bank of Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves had reached $21.4 billion, while commercial banks held around $5.5 billion in reserves.

The prime minister said Pakistan’s foreign remittances and IT exports had also increased. He stressed that the next challenge was to achieve economic growth and further enhance exports, productive employment, production, and the delivery of goods and services.

According to the prime minister, improvements in these areas would further strengthen Pakistan’s economy and support sustainable economic growth.
