NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a series of bilateral meetings with foreign ministers and the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly on the sidelines of UNGA 81 in New York.
During his meeting with Benin’s Foreign Minister Corinne Amori Brunet, the two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of Bilateral Political Consultations between Pakistan and Benin. The agreement will provide an institutional framework for regular dialogue and consultations between the two countries.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in economic and trade cooperation, and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
Dar also met Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs, E.P. Chet Greene. The two sides discussed bilateral relations and expressed their desire to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in areas including education and diplomatic training.
They also discussed cooperation at multilateral forums, particularly the Commonwealth and the United Nations. Both sides agreed to meet again at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), scheduled to be held in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, from November 1 to 4, 2026.
In another meeting, Dar met Dr. Khalilur Rahman, President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Dar congratulated Rahman on assuming the presidency and assured him of Pakistan’s support and constructive engagement.
The two sides reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and the central role of the United Nations and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest.
Dar also expressed confidence in the UN General Assembly president’s leadership and assured Pakistan’s continued engagement in advancing the work of the General Assembly.
The United Nations confirms that Rahman is serving as President of the 81st session, which opened in September 2026.
The meetings form part of Pakistan’s diplomatic engagements during the 81st UN General Assembly, providing an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation through multilateral institutions.
