NEW YORK: Qatar, in partnership with Jordan and the United Kingdom, hosted a “Call to Action” meeting on the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Qatar’s Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al-Khulaifi, represented Qatar at the meeting.
According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) Addressing the gathering, Dr. Al-Khulaifi said Qatar attaches great importance to alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.
He said this commitment has been a key driver of Qatar’s diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and advance the comprehensive 20-point plan proposed by US President Donald Trump and endorsed by the UN Security Council through Resolution 2803.
The Qatari minister highlighted the country’s humanitarian assistance to Gaza, saying food, essential supplies and tents had been provided to approximately 436,000 people. He also noted the resumption of operations at the Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics.
According to the Qatari official, Qatar has supplied 30 million liters of fuel to Gaza over the past three years. He added that Qatar recently signed an agreement with the United Nations to provide an additional 1.3 million liters of fuel to help maintain medical facilities and essential services.
Dr. Al-Khulaifi stressed the need for the rapid, sustainable and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. He also called for humanitarian organizations to be allowed to operate safely and for health workers, medical facilities and medical transport to be protected.
With winter approaching, he emphasized the urgent need to provide adequate shelter, clean water and sanitation services to the people of Gaza.
The Minister of State reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to working with international partners and the Board of Peace to address urgent humanitarian needs and support recovery and reconstruction efforts, with the ultimate objective of achieving a just and lasting peace.
He also expressed Qatar’s appreciation for the support extended to the “Call to Action” initiative.
