Pakistan, Russia agree to strengthen counterterrorism cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Russia on Tuesday stressed the importance of a coordinated approach to counter regional terrorist threats, particularly those linked to cross-border challenges originating from Afghanistan.

The understanding was reached during the 12th session of the Joint Working Group on Countering International Terrorism, where both countries agreed to expand cooperation in counterterrorism efforts and further strengthen security coordination.

The talks were co-chaired by Ambassador Muhammad Khalid Khan Jamali, Additional Secretary at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Dmitry Lyubinsky, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

During the meeting, the two delegations reviewed the regional security environment and discussed the threat posed by terrorism emanating from Afghanistan, which they noted continues to affect neighbouring countries and regional stability.
