Hezbollah rejects Lebanese government’s talks with US, cites sovereignty concerns

BEIRUT: Hezbollah has strongly rejected the Lebanese government’s direct negotiations with the United States, arguing that the talks undermine Lebanon’s sovereignty and primarily serve Israeli interests.

In a statement, the group said the Lebanese delegation visiting Washington was being pressured to endorse what it described as US-imposed conditions that would “confiscate Lebanon’s sovereignty” and place Beirut alongside countries that have reconciled with Israel.

Hezbollah further argued that the negotiations are based on a “flawed” premise and warned that the process would result in “capitulation” rather than advancing Lebanon’s national interests.

The group said the government’s participation in the talks weakens efforts to confront what it called the “enemy’s project,” undermines the resistance’s activities on the ground, and diminishes the significance of the sacrifices made by the Lebanese people. According to Hezbollah, these factors could otherwise be used by the state to push for a complete and unconditional Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

Hezbollah also warned that the government’s involvement in the negotiations increases risks to Lebanon’s stability and independence, describing the move as compliance with US and Israeli policy objectives.
